Dr. Arvind Saini MD, MBA
. . .

Board Certified Ophthalmologist & Cornea Specialist
Dr. Arvind Saini was inspired to be an ophthalmologist by his grandmother, who underwent cataract surgery and a corneal transplant when he was a child. Unfortunately, her surgery did not go smoothly, and he always wished that he could “fix” her eye. He was also influenced by an ophthalmologist in his hometown of Madison Wisconsin, who traveled internationally to perform charitable surgery. With these influences, he knew from a young age that he wanted to help people see.
Dr. Saini grew up in Madison, Wisconsin, 10 minutes from the University. This allowed him to begin research projects in pathology and immunology when he was in high school. After high school, it felt natural for him to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He triple-majored in Zoology, Molecular Biology and South Asian Studies, and completed 2 thesis projects. He achieved high honors in the College of Letters and Science, won numerous scholastic and research awards, and was a finalist for the Universities Rhodes scholarship selection. He continued on to the University of Pennsylvania, where he was president of his class and also obtained his masters of business from the Wharton School of Business. After completing his internship at the University of Pennsylvania he completed his ophthalmology residency at Loma Linda University, where he was a chief resident and completed the Navy’s refractive surgery training course. He then pursued fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at Wills Eye Hospital, the country’s first eye hospital. He feels extremely grateful for the excellent teachers and mentors that helped him become the professional that he is today, and he tries to teach and mentor other young ophthalmologists.
Since completion of his formal training he has learned ultra-thin corneal transplantation (DMEK) at the Netherlands Institute of Innovative Ocular Surgery and has continued to work on research. He has also remained active with the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO). He was selected to the Leadership Development Program of the AAO and has served on the technology committee of the AAO. He currently serves on the AAO Young Ophthalmologist committee and Communications committee. In the past he was on the Board of the Wisconsin Academy of Ophthalmology, and currently is an assistant professor at Loma Linda University and faculty at USC-LA county. He has been named in numerous physician recognition publications, such as “Leading Physicians of the World”, “Guide to America’s Top Ophthalmologists, and was selected as a “rising star” in Los Angeles Magazine Doctor’s edition in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
Dr. Saini strongly believes in community service and using ophthalmology to help those in need. He participates in the AAO Eyecare America Program and Partners for Health. Both programs help patients without insurance receive eye care. He also has volunteered his surgical services abroad in the Philippines, India, and Myanmar. International volunteer work will always be a part of Dr. Saini’s career.
Dr. Saini is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist. He specializes in comprehensive ophthalmology, including cataract and refractive surgery. He also is a Cornea Specialist and performs full-thickness and partial-thickness (DSAEK, DMEK) corneal transplants. He prides himself on treating patients honestly, and in the same way that he would like his family members treated. He tries to ensure that patients have all of their surgical and non-surgical options explained to them so they can make an educated decision on what is best for them. Most importantly, he feels privileged to be an ophthalmologist and to help people see.
The son of an artist and an engineer, Dr. Saini grew up with interests in drawing, photography, playing Indian classical music and sports. He grew up playing and coaching tennis and was a USTA ranked junior tennis player in the state of Wisconsin. He still likes to play tennis, but also enjoys golf, and is a single handicap player. He loves to spend time with his wife, who is also a physician, and twin sons.
